Efflux

Soil gas flux, measured in the field.

Efflux is the companion app for Thearen flux chambers. Connect over Bluetooth or WiFi, watch CO₂ and CH₄ flux build in real time, and run GPS-tagged sampling campaigns that turn into interpolated flux maps — on your phone, your desktop, or straight from the browser.

What it does

Live flux, as it builds

Real-time CO₂ and CH₄ flux with slope and R², plus min/max/mean for pressure, temperature and humidity — updated as the chamber fills.

Bluetooth & WiFi instruments

Pair a Thearen IRB flux chamber over BLE or discover it on the local network via mDNS. Add an accumulation chamber and GPS receiver as needed.

Campaigns & flux maps

Plan a survey of sampling points, then see your real acquisitions rendered as an IDW, Kriging or contour flux surface — with wayfinding to the next point.

GPS-tagged acquisitions

Geotag every run from the device GPS or an external receiver (Garmin eTrex / GLO 2), and reconcile tracks after the fact for higher accuracy.

Phone, desktop & web

One app on Android, Windows, Linux and the browser. Export acquisitions to XLSX or a portable .effluxdb backup you can move between devices.

Guided acquisition cycle

Warm-up, close, acquire, open and circuit-clean — stepped through for you, with the screen kept awake and auto-reconnect if a link drops.

Using the web app over HTTPS? Browsers block a secure page from reaching instruments on your local network. The small Efflux Helper service bridges that gap, safely, on 127.0.0.1 — no account, no configuration.
